The months are slipping by. I can’t believe I didn’t post in March or April. No excuses really. I must admit I have been feeling a tad disheartened by the Substack experience. But I guess that’s more about me than anything else. I really don’t want to be spending all day trying to fathom Notes or keeping up with others. Social media is great but a terrible gobbler of time! So any other things to be doing.
What have we been up to since last I wrote?
- We house/pet sat at the Chateau in France for two weeks whilst our family headed off to Florida for a well deserved holiday. We had a great time, worked on clearing/sorting rooms not used that often. Gardening when the weather permitted. But best of all was the visit of our dear friend Joan from the USA. We had a great time showing her around and had a long overdue catch up. We honestly never stopped talking. I just wished the weather had been better for her visit.
Back home we set to work sorting seeds and the allotment. Always a busy time. The weather has been so cold and miserable that germination rates have been poor and lots have had to be reset.
Knitting, always something on the needles and I have managed a fair few projects - the brown top ended up short sleeved so I just added a rib to this. The shawl in creams and fawns was made using gifted yarn from Joan’s sheep plus a skein I had bought whilst in Cumbria. The jade shawl was made using reclaimed yarn from a previous project along with some other stashed yarn. Both shawls were based on the Linus shawl. The socks again from the reclaimed yarn. The grey and navy top was knitted in King Cole Fashion aran and the pattern Best Dressed Vest from Lion Brand via Ravelry. I’m currently working on a wrap using up the last of the aran weight cotton in my stash
Easter was quiet. We had the children for a few days during the school holidays. A fun time was had. We had a day at Wimpole Hall, a wet morning in the Cinema followed by McDonalds as you do, I finally was allowed to teach them both to knit. Jess picked it up straight away. A proud Granny moment. We redressed the scarecrow and took her to the allotment then a walk around the village lakes in the rain collecting flints. Those kids were so happy puddle jumping and getting messy
What else? We had a theatre trip, Peter had major dental work, had a catch up with Judy and Stephen at Stanwick Lakes. Another trip to France to help prepare the gardens for opening. A busy week weeding and mulching. Peter had a birthday. We celebrated with a lunch out.
Home again. Rebecca had a birthday, as did Rachel - lunch out with the family. We met my brothers at Southwold and spread our parents ashes, a bittersweet moment. Dad will have been gone 9 years in September and Mum just 5 months, together again.
As you can see we’ve been busy these last few months. Bought back a stinking cold from France too! Had hoped we would have avoided it, but alas no.
What next?
Another long distance walk is on the horizon.
Watch this space. At some point I will get round to documenting the rest of the Camino de Santiago 2022, Camino Portuguese coastal/Finisterre 2023, but don’t hold your breathe.
Bye for now x
Lovely photos as always Sue! You’ve been out enjoying the finer things in life — makes perfect sense why you made it through March and April without posting here. And honestly, that’s the way it should be! Substack will be here, being present with your loved ones is far more important. Thanks for sharing a bit of what you’ve been up to
You are such a busy bee! You must have more than 24 hours in a day. I can't wait to start reading about your adventure in Sweden! Good luck xxx
